A taggant is a chemical marker, typically manufactured using complex rare-earth phosphor compounds that are difficult to source.For many taggants, the trigger is excitation by infra-red radiation. Others may only be visible under a microscope - a sort of ‘nano-barcode’.They can also be embedded in labels and tapes, allowing brands and products to be protected.
